Rose and Baby’s Breath Bud Vase

A single rose with a cloud of hand-made gypsophila in a slim white bud vase. Six hours of work, most of it in the hundreds of tiny white buds nobody counts but everybody notices.

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

Description

The rose gets the attention. The baby’s breath is where the six hours went.

Gypsophila is the quiet tax on any arrangement that uses it. Each of those little white stars is a separate piece of clay, rolled to the size of a grain of rice, split five ways with a scalpel, opened out, and wired. There are several hundred of them on this piece, gathered into sprays and then into a cloud.

Set against them is one open rose, sculpted the same way as our single stems – forty petals, veined from a real rose mould, coloured from the base out. The contrast is the whole point: one deliberate, saturated bloom, and a haze of white around it that makes it look bigger and softer than it is.

It sits in a slim white bud vase on a bedside table, a bathroom shelf, a desk. It is the arrangement people keep saying they need to replace the flowers in, and then remember they do not.

Where six hours goes

There are 6 hours of bench time inside this piece. That is not a marketing number, it is the studio log:

  • 2.5 hrs — the rose: petals, bloom, colour, leaves, stem
  • 2.4 hrs — several hundred individual baby’s breath buds, rolled, split and wired
  • 0.6 hrs — gathering the buds into sprays and balancing the cloud
  • 0.5 hrs — setting the arrangement in the vase and fixing the base

Struxa prices by the clock, not by the shelf. Every petal is cut, thinned, veined, shaped, dried and painted by hand, one at a time, and a piece is only finished when it holds up to being looked at closely. What you are buying is that time, held still, and made to last decades instead of days.

What you receive

  • One hand-sculpted rose and a full spray of hand-made baby’s breath

Why this pairing

Baby’s breath means everlasting love and purity of heart, which is why it has been tucked into bridal bouquets for over a century. Paired with a single rose it softens a declaration into something gentler – less I want you, more I am staying. It is the arrangement people send for a first anniversary, a new baby, or a recovery.

Living with it

Cold porcelain is a firm, air-cured clay. It does not wilt, drop petals or need water. Keep it out of direct midday sun and away from steam or damp, and dust the blooms every few weeks with a soft make-up brush or a puff of cool air from a hairdryer on its lowest setting. Petals are flexible rather than brittle, so if one shifts in transit you can warm it for a second between your fingers and ease it back. The stems are wired, which means you can bend them to the shape you want.

Because every piece is shaped by hand, no two are identical. Small differences in petal curl, colour depth and stem angle are the signature of the process, not a flaw.
